I recently took advantage of the special that Adobe is running (good thru 12/31/2012) to upgrade Photoshop CS3 Extended to Photoshop CS6. I purchased and downloaded CS6, but when I put the serial number in for CS3 it says it is not a valid upgrade. I'm guessing this is because you cannot normally upgrade across so many versions, but this was a limited one-time offer, so it should work.
