Virtually Confusing

I understand a virtual copy of an image is not a real image, right? Yeah, I guess. When I make a virtual copy of an image in the Navigator folder system, the virtual copy shows in the folder system. The file name is identical with the addition of Copy Name (eg."Copy 1"). So, the file name is the same, but it is not really an image, it is a virtual image. Are not all images virtual images until they are printed on something you can touch and feel? It would be good if the Copy Name was actually appended to the File Name, because after I edit a few real images and virtual images in Photoshop or other external editors, and then send them back to Lightroom, I find myself drowning in multiple copies of what appears to be the same image and I do not know which one gets five stars!
